Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Document Genius LLC (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on https://documentgenius.com (the “Site”), what choices you have about them, and how those choices relate to your rights under this Privacy Policy. This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which governs how we handle personal information more broadly, including the retention periods that apply to the data these technologies collect.

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We and our service providers also use related technologies that work similarly to cookies for the purposes described below:

• Local storage — data stored by your browser that, unlike a cookie, is not automatically sent back to a server with every request, but is used by some of the tools listed below to remember settings or consent choices.
• Web beacons and pixels (also called “tracking pixels” or “clear gifs”) — tiny graphic files, including in emails, that tell us when a page has been viewed or an email opened. These often rely on cookies to work, so declining cookies will generally limit them as well.

“First-party” cookies are set by documentgenius.com directly; “third-party” cookies are set by other companies whose technology we use on the Site.

We group the cookies and similar technologies on our Site into four categories. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be turned off, because the Site will not function correctly without them. You can accept, reject, or customize the remaining categories at any time using the controls described in Section 4.

2.1 Strictly Necessary

These support core site functionality, security, and your account session. They do not require consent under applicable law.

2.2 Performance and Functionality

These improve site performance and enable optional features such as embedded video and trust verification. Declining these may disable some non-essential functionality.

2.3 Analytics and Site Improvement

These help us understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it.

2.4 Advertising

These are used to measure and improve the performance of our advertising and, where applicable, to make ads more relevant. We do not use these technologies to sell your personal information, and we do not permit third-party remarketing or cross-context behavioral advertising based on this data without your consent.

Cookie lifespans are set individually by each vendor (see durations above). The underlying data those tools collect — for example analytics and inferred-profile data — follows the retention schedule in our Privacy Policy: browsing/interaction data is generally retained for up to 36 months and then deleted or aggregated, and raw export files pulled from these tools for analysis are deleted within one month of that analysis being complete. You have one place to manage cookie and tracking preferences on our Site: the “Your Privacy Choices” link in the site footer. It opens a preference center where you can:

• Accept all cookies,
• Reject all non-essential cookies, or
• Manage your preferences by category (as described in Section 2 above), including a dedicated “Do not sell or share my personal information” control.

Your choice is saved and applied on future visits. You can change it at any time using the same link.

Global Privacy Control (GPC). If your browser or a browser extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising purposes, and we apply it automatically — consistent with Privacy Policy §13.

Do Not Track (DNT). Some browsers offer a DNT signal. Because there is no finalized industry or legal standard for how businesses should respond to DNT, we do not currently respond to it — consistent with Privacy Policy §13. This is separate from GPC, above, which we do honor.

Browser controls. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies directly in their own settings, in addition to the controls above. Doing so may affect how parts of the Site function. Instructions for the most common browsers:

• Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
• Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
• Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
• Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies

Industry opt-out tools. For advertising cookies specifically, you can also opt out through industry tools that apply across many websites, not just ours: the Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info), the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada (youradchoices.ca), and the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (youronlinechoices.eu). These are independent of the “Your Privacy Choices” control above and manage a broader set of advertisers.

To the extent any of the technologies above are considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under California or other applicable state law (which can include some forms of targeted-advertising measurement), the “Your Privacy Choices” control in Section 4 is how you opt out. We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies and technologies we use, or for legal or operational reasons. The “Last Updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
