An Oklahoma trailer bill of sale records a private trailer sale. Service Oklahoma puts the position simply: some, not all, trailers have titles.

Through a sworn application. Private and farm trailer registration runs on form 754-3, in which the owner affirms under penalties of perjury that they are the lawful owner of the trailer described.

The form asks who you obtained ownership from, and directs you to attach photocopies of any documentation supporting your acquisition of the trailer, naming a bill of sale as an example.

That declaration conveys nothing

The price declaration establishes the purchase price only. Completing it does not convey ownership, so it never replaces the title itself.

The titling application covers trailers

Form 701-6 is headed as the application for an Oklahoma certificate of title for a vehicle, trailer, or manufactured home, so trailers use the same route where a title exists.

Incomplete forms come back

Service Oklahoma warns that submissions missing sections may not be accepted, which makes a half-filled form a wasted appointment.

Liens have to clear first

A lien release is required for any active lien, and where a lien remains live the lienholder keeps the paper or electronic title until it is satisfied.

Plates can carry credit forward

Where you already hold a plate with unexpired tags and are not changing registration type, you can bring it along and receive credit for the time remaining.

Service Oklahoma publishes a separate letter covering personal use and agricultural trailers, which is worth reading alongside the registration application.

The route depends on whether a title exists.

1. Ask the seller whether the trailer has ever been titled.
2. Where it has, take the properly assigned and notarized certificate of title.
3. Where it has not, complete the private or farm trailer registration application before a notary.
4. Attach photocopies of your bill of sale and any other acquisition documents.
5. Take everything and proof of identity to Service Oklahoma or a licensed operator.

Excise tax and fees are set by the state and change from time to time, so confirm current figures before you go.

Give the serial or identification number, the year, make, and description, the purchase price, the date, and both parties’ names, addresses, and signatures.

Name the seller clearly. The trailer registration application asks who you obtained ownership from, and your bill of sale is what answers that question.

Keep a copy, since photocopies go in with the application.
