Where you can pay
Tax is paid at the division when you register or title, or in advance at the Division of Taxation.
Inspection at a thousand pounds
A safety inspection is required for every trailer of 1,000 pounds or more, which catches far lighter units than the titling threshold does.
Insurance for the tow vehicle
Proof of insurance is required, but the division is explicit that the insurance information is for the vehicle pulling the trailer rather than the trailer itself.
Length and capacity
Information on the length of the trailer and its carrying capacity has to be supplied when you register, so measure before you go.
Signatures get notarized
