Free Utah Trailer Bill of Sale Template

A Utah trailer bill of sale records a private trailer sale. The Tax Commission publishes its own version as form TC-843, which carries a tick box for trailers alongside cars and boats.

More than in most states. The division says you should have the title or at least a bill of sale from the previous owner, and that either should be sufficient to get you started at the DMV.

It goes further than that. Either document should allow you to obtain a temporary permit while you gather the rest, such as inspection paperwork.

That makes this the document worth insisting on at the moment of sale, even where the title is temporarily out of reach.

The 750 pound line governs almost everything else.

Above seven hundred and fifty pounds

Every trailer operated in Utah, including travel and tent trailers, weighing more than 750 pounds must be titled and registered.

Below it, no title

Every vehicle operated in Utah must be titled regardless of model year, except non-commercial trailers with an unladen weight of 750 pounds or less.

Single axle exemptions

Registration is not required for single axle trailers that are not commercial or used for hire, nor for single axle camping, travel or fifth wheel trailers with an unladen weight under 750 pounds.

Identification inspection first time round

A trailer being titled in Utah for the first time needs an identification number inspection on a certificate of inspection, unless it is new and sold by a Utah dealer.

Everyone shows identification

All owners listed on the title and registration application have to provide government-issued identification.

Where the title has gone missing

A missing title is often just held by the seller’s bank. Where it is truly lost, a Utah seller can complete a duplicate title application that both requests the duplicate and transfers it to you.

Whose job the title is

Providing the ownership document falls to the seller, whether that is the Utah title itself or a completed duplicate title application.

Uniform fees on top

A registration fee falls due at initial registration and annually afterwards, with uniform fees applying as well.

Non-residents are outside it

A trailer owned and operated by someone who does not live in Utah is exempt from registration here, as is anything owned and operated by the federal government.

The bill of sale opens the process even when nothing else is ready.

1. Take the bill of sale from the seller, with the title if it is available.
2. Use either to obtain a temporary permit while you assemble the rest.
3. Arrange an identification number inspection if the trailer is new to Utah.
4. Complete the application for Utah title and registration.
5. Bring government-issued identification for every owner listed.

Registration and uniform fees are assessed at the county and change from time to time, so confirm current amounts before you go.

Give the year, make and model, the identification number, the purchase price, any trade-in allowance and the net figure, and both parties’ names, addresses and signatures.

Record the unladen weight too. Utah draws its titling and registration lines at 750 pounds, and that figure decides which rules reach your trailer at all.

Both parties keep a copy.
