Equipment and Access

Order hardware early, since delivery is the step most likely to slip. Create accounts, set permissions, and arrange building access or keys.

Day One

Training and Safety

List the training every new hire completes, plus anything specific to the role. Record the completion dates, because that record matters later.

The First Month

Schedule check-ins at week one, week two, and week four. Set goals for the first ninety days, then agree who measures progress.

Introductions and Culture

Pair the new hire with somebody outside their immediate team. Introductions arranged on purpose beat the ones that happen by luck, especially for anyone working remotely.

• Keep medical and eligibility records separate from the general personnel file
• Limit access to the people who genuinely need it
• Agree how long to keep each record, and who deletes it
• Note the date each training item was completed

Some hires bring extra layers, such as work authorization questions, non-compete terms, or a role with mandatory certification. Ask an employment attorney to review those before the start date rather than after.

Name an owner for the records as well. Storage rules mean little while nobody knows whose job it is to apply them.
