• Final pay: No state statute sets a deadline. Best practice is to pay all wages owed by the next regular payday.
• Child labor: Minimum employment age is 14. Youths under 16 face limits on daily/weekly hours and cannot work late nights or in hazardous jobs. Work permits are generally not required, but compliance with Florida’s Child Labor Law is mandatory.
• Non-competes: Florida enforces non-competes if reasonable in time, geographic area, and scope, and supported by legitimate business interests (FL Stat § 542.335). Courts in Florida are generally employer-friendly compared to other states.
• E-signatures: Florida has adopted the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA), making e-signatures legally valid.
• Recordkeeping: Employers must comply with federal recordkeeping rules. Florida also requires certain records for youth employment and wage documentation.
