Build the core around evidence rather than destination. Descriptions of how the student thinks, works, and behaves travel anywhere, whereas a paragraph about why they suit one specific programme does not.

Then vary only the closing line. Changing the final sentence to name the actual recipient takes a minute and stops the letter reading as recycled.

Ask the student to keep you informed. If they later apply somewhere the letter genuinely does not fit, you can add a short tailored paragraph rather than starting again.

Be honest early. A student told in week one that you cannot write enthusiastically has time to ask someone who can, whereas a bland letter arriving at the deadline quietly damages the application.
