Some documents require notarization by law, while others require it because a bank, agency, or company asks for it. Notarization is common for:

Notarizing a document is usually straightforward when you prep a few details in advance.

Step 1 – Find a Notary Public

You can often find notaries at banks, credit unions, shipping stores, local government offices, and private notary businesses. Fees and appointment requirements vary, so it helps to call ahead.

Step 2 – Fill Out the Notary Acknowledgment Form

Some states allow remote online notarization (RON), which lets you complete notarization over secure audio-video technology.
